Day 4 Recap – NCAA D2 Baseball Tournament

Lynn 6, Dowling 5
Chad Crowe’s eighth-inning rbi-single broke a 5-5 tie and reliever Tommy Kahnle retired eight of the final nine batters he faced as Lynn remained unbeaten in the championship. Dowling rallied from a 5-2 deficit with three runs in the sixth as David Wendt’s two-out two-run single tied the game. A bizarre play in the top of the ninth wiped out a potential game-tying baserunner and Kahnle sealed the win with a groundout. Lynn advances to the winners’ bracket final Thursday at 7 p.m. Dowling takes on UC San Diego Wednesday at 7 p.m. in an elimination game and a rematch of the first round.  NCAA Recap  Lynn Recap

UC San Diego 8, West Chester 6
Matt Rossman took a three-hitter into the ninth inning and UC San Diego survived a furious rally to remain in the tournament. The Tritons built an 8-1 lead, but Matt Baer’s two-out pinch-hit grand slam home run in the top of the ninth put West Chester within striking range. RBI-singles in the bottom of the eighth by Josh Tanner and Brandon Gregorich proved to be the winning runs for the Tritons. UC San Diego plays another elimination game Wednesday at 3 p.m. against Dowling. West Chester is eliminated from the championship.  NCAA Recap  UC San Diego Recap
