Day 3 Recap – NCAA D2 Baseball Tournament

Emporia State 5, Mesa State 2
Ben Graham pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings of relief and Caleb Williamson’s two-run double with two outs in the bottom of the third put Empoira State ahead to stay as the Hornets remained unbeaten. Graham took over in the top of the second and got a strikeout to escape a bases loaded jam after Mesa State took its first lead. Williamson went 4-for-4 for the Hornets. Emporia State advances to the winners’ bracket final Thursday at 3 p.m. Mesa State takes on Belmont Abbey Wednesday at 7 p.m. in an elimination game and a rematch of the tournament opener.  NCAA Recap  Emporia State Recap

Belmont Abbey 5, Grand Valley State 4
Spencer Sobol drove the first pitch through the left side for the game-winning bases-loaded rbi-single with nobody out in the bottom of the ninth as Belmont Abbey survived a frantic Grand Valley State rally to remain alive in the tournament. Michael Raymond pitched eight scoreless innings and recorded 13 strikeouts as Belmont Abbey built a 4-0 lead, but Ben Knuth’s two-run homer highlighted a four-run ninth inning for Grand Valley State. Belmont Abbey plays Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Mesa State. Grand Valley State is eliminated from the championship.  NCAA Recap  Belmont Abbey Recap
