Craig Lanzarotta’s two-run homer in the fourth gave Mesa State its first lead and Mike Provencher’s three-run homer in the seventh broke the game open as the Mavericks rallied from an early deficit for a first-round victory. Mesa State starting pitcher Brent Lamaster overcame a two-run first inning and combined with relievers Garrett Carpenter and Aaron Guinn to hold Belmont Abbey scoreless the rest of the way. Belmont Abbey left 13 runners on base.
