In the RMAC, Mesa State split their series with Colorado Christian, but managed to win their fifth straight RMAC regular season championship. The Mavericks drew 2,861 fans for their Saturday game, apparently just short of a DII attendance record. Must have pretty good fan support over there.

Mesa went 5-6 over their last 11. Great attendance or not, if they still are ranked first in the region today, something is wrong.

Still hoping WSC will host the regional.

They are on a slide, that’s for sure. Probably have to hope for them to stumble early in their conference tourney for WSC to have a shot to host, and WSC probably has to win the NSIC tourney. But what do I know 🙂

I’m not sure that the tourney games count – someone said yesterday that it is this weeks rankings.

wayne cannot host a regional, no lights!

I believe when the light issue has come up in the past, WSC used Hank Overin Field in downtown Wayne to play host to some night games. It is used by Wayne’s American Legion teams.

I dont think regionals can be held in wayne because of the lack of hotels and the fact that there is no field with a tarp and lights. I still held in grand junction

Wayne State could if they wanted, host it in Sioux City if Lewis & Clark Park is avaible, which is home to the Sioux City Explorers a member of the American Assoc. Its only 45-50mins from Wayne so almost be like homefield to them in sorts.

Well if they play in Sioux City there wouldn’t be any home field advantage. Isn’t that why they award it to the top ranked team? To reward them for doing well during the regular season.

There would still be some homefield advantage if it was in Sioux City. Its alot more homefield advantage than it would be for other teams. Its not like students and fans don’t come to Sioux City anyways since its only 45-50min away. I see WSC students and fans in Sioux City all most all the time. The fans would drive that short distance because while WSC isn’t playing they can go shooping at the mall, home improvement stores, or etc. There was a couple years back where I believe MSU was the #1 seed but regionals was in Kansas or Missouri someplace I believe. And if you look at all the distances the other teams would have to travel to SC its still considered homefield advantage for WSC because they would be more familiar with the area and also should have the most fan support still.

I’ll have to look, but I think the dimensions of the Legion field in downtown Wayne are pretty close to the Pete Chapman complex on campus (could be wrong). Also, if WSC hosts, teams would just likely stay in Sioux City and bus to Wayne every day for their games (50 miles).

Thats exactly what the teams did last year when Wayne was the host for the NSIC tourny last year. It’s not that bad of a drive. That would be the way it would work again this time.

Let me set the record straight. WSC couldn’t put in a bid to host a regional at the Chapman complex … no lights. Hank Overin and Lewis and Clark are not options for a number of reasons.

I’m on the central region committee .. I believe Mesa will be ranked #1 in the region on Wednesday. They lead slightly in most NCAA categories over WSC and Highlands…the entire season is taken into account not just a the last two weeks or UNK would be in the top six.

You folks are great. Your avid interest and team loyalties make the conference and regional races exciting to follow.

This site is great for Central Region Baseball…Thanks Fishingman…. and I need to get a line wet … soon!!

When you note the time of this blog you will know baseball coaches have trouble sleeping this time of the season even when you win 🙂

    God Bless you all.

Thanks Coach Manganaro on the input and on your 500th win!

So, if WSC runs through the NSIC tourney and Mesa stumbles early in the RMAC and the Wildcats do end up #1 in the region, where would the tourney be played?

  13. 18 John Manganaro May 5, 2009 at 10:45 pm

Mesa or Mankato … but Mesa has the inside track.
