Ball Bucket

The Northern Sun Conference had a full slate of D2 college baseball games yesterday as they move past the middle of the regular season.  Here’s your recap of games that occurred on Sunday, April 19th:

  • Upper Iowa again won game 1 of a doubleheader against Southwest Minnesota State and once again lost the back half to gain no ground on the Mustangs in the standings.  In game 1, the Peacock’s starting pitcher, Lucas Wilsing, struck out 10 batters and completed his 3rd straight complete game win (6-3).  In game 2, SMSU was lead by a 4-4 effort at the plate by Andrew Kinney and a 3-3 game by Doug Stearns to win 7-5.  Mustangs – Peacocks Split Again
  • St. Cloud State came back with a win over Augustana in game 2 of their doubleheader to salvage a split and win their team record 30th game of the season.  Game 1 saw the Augie’s pitcher, Ezra Campbell, give up only 1 unearned run in 6 innings to lead the Vikings to a 3-1 victory.  In the 2nd contest, St. Cloud State’s Logan Birr remained perfect as a starter moving his record to 7-0 with a complete game 8-4 win.  The Huskies were led, once again, by Sam Radbil at the plate who was 3-4 with 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored.  These teams are scheduled for another doubleheader today.  Huskies – Vikings Split
  • Minnesota Duluth looks to be getting some much better pitching of late and they swept Bemidji State by scores of 13-2 and 4-0.  Starters Gary Wilfahrt, Jr. and Anders Engberg both had very good outings.  The Bulldogs took 3 of 4 over the weekend.  Bulldogs Sweep Beavers
  • Concordia had a couple tight games on Sunday against Minnesota Crookston but took them both (3-2 & 10-7) to earn a 4 game sweep over the weekend.  This will definitely move them up at least 1 spot in the standings.  Golden Bears Sweep 4
  • Winona State took care of business by sweeping Mary by lopsided scores of 7-0 and 13-7.  Tony Mueller had 5 hits in the 2 games including 2 homers.  Winona Takes 2 From Mary
  • Finally, Wayne State looked like they were taking batting practice against Northern State pitching on Sunday.  The Wildcats won 18-8 and 19-7 hitting 13 home runs in the process.  This display of power included 9 homers in game 1!  These 2 teams play another pair on Monday.  Wildcats Belt 13 HR’s in Sweep
