Just a quick update to recap the 6 games played yesterday by Northern Sun’s D2 college baseball teams:

  • Southwest Minnesota State and Upper Iowa squared off in the series which had the most potential impact on post-season play.  In game 1, the Peacock’s Brian Solemsaas (4-3) pitched a complete game gem giving up just 3 hits to go with 5 strikeouts.  The 2nd game went to extra innings as UIU scored a run in the 7th to force more play.  The Mustangs scored 5 runs in the top of the 9th inning, highlighted by a Andrew Kinney 2 run homer to win 7-3.  Mustangs Salvage Split with Upper Iowa
  • 13 seemed to be the lucky number in Bemidji as the Beavers beat Duluth in game 1, 13-2.  The Bulldogs then came back in game 2 to win 13-5.  Justin Huether was the offensive star for Bemidji in game 1 as he was 4-4 with 5 RBI’s (which tied a team record).  Duluth came back in game 2 with their own offensive barrage, getting 16 hits including David Olson’s 9th homer of the season.  Bemidji State Splits with Duluth
  • Concordia swept Minnesota Crookston by scores of 6-3 and 10-4.  Same 2 teams play another doubleheader today.  Concordia’s website is down so no link.
