D2 Baseball Individual Stats – NSIC Leaders 4/1/09

NCAA Baseball Logo

In addition to the NCAA Team Statistics that I just published, the NCAA produces individual statistics for comparing the performances of each Division 2 college baseball player.

Here are just a sampling of categories that are well represented by players from the Northern Sun Conference:

Batting Average – the NSIC has 8 of the top 100 leaders in overall batting average with Tony Mueller still leading the Conference despite what was a somewhat disappointing series against Crookston.

Runs Scored per Game – The Northern Sun has 6 of the top 100 run scorers.

image

Slugging Percentage – 8 of the Top 101 – notice Jay Bresnahan in every hitting statistic

image

On Base Percentage – Northern Sun represented by 9 of top 100 including 3 of the top 10 in the country

image

Victories – Pitchers are well represented as 6 pitchers now have 5+ wins – Tim Scott has opened a 2 win lead

image

Strikeouts per 9 Innings Pitched – 7 of the top 87 pitchers in the country, including a Crookston pitcher which surprised me

Why was Derek West .545 average with 33 at bats, Matt Bauer .500 average with 40 at bats left out and Derick Swenson, .462 average with 39 at bats in the stats.
    Just curious how that works.

Wow—its based on a set number of AB which increases I believe week to week…If they dont make the min. then they are not placed in the stat rankings.

I understand that, but if you look at the stats in this blog for batting average, Derick Swanson in included in the stats. His team mates played the same number of games and one teammate had more at bats and a higher batting average and was left out. Not sure how that happened. I know that you needed like 45 at bats to make the list. Just wondering how Swenson made the list and not the others. It states the NSIC has 8 of the top 100 leaders in batting average. Now Swenson is included in that from what I see. What am I missing.
Here are the stats as posted on SMSU web site.

    West, Derek .545 9-9 33 13 18 2 2 4 15 36 1.091 5 0 3 0 .605 0 0 1-4 11 0 0 1.000

Wow – what you are missing is this –

    It’s the NCAA 🙂

I agree – it’s not clear why Swenson would qualify and the others wouldn’t.

In a week all things should be more clear. Might have been just something they missed. Looking forward to the upcoming weekend.

I have wondered the same thing about these stats. It seems that in order for your stats to matter to the NCAA you have to have played in at least 75% of your team’s games in addition to at least 3.0 plate appearances per team game and a minimum of 45 plate appearances.
