NCBWA Regional Poll – 3/30/09

The National College Baseball Writers Association has released their Regional Poll for the week ending March 29th.  At the end of the regular season these are the teams that will be competing for 6 spots in the NCAA Regional Tournament.  Both the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament Champion and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Champion will earn automatic bids with the remaining 4 spots nominated as at-large bids.

Mesa State continues to maintain a solid hold on the top of the poll, garnering all 8 first place votes.  The Mavericks had another solid week as they swept the #2 team in last week’s poll, Colorado State – Pueblo, in 4 straight games over the weekend.  At this point you have to assume that Mesa will get an at-large bid even if they fail to win the RMAC Tourney as they are considered a top 5 team in the country.

Wayne State moved up to the #2 spot with the Pueblo losses.  Northern Sun teams hold down 4 of the top 6 positions with Southwest Minnesota State tied for #3 and Minnesota State & St. Cloud State tied with each other at #5.  This will definitely be a big week for Concordia as they face off against Wayne State and a chance to show that they belong in the top 6.  NCBWA Regional Polls
