Northern Sun D2 College Baseball Poll – Premier!

Northern Sun D2 Poll1

Today marks the premier of my new Northern Sun Division 2 College Baseball Poll!

As of today, there are 2 primary Division 2 polls that are available – College Baseball News and Ping!Baseball.  These 2 services offer widely divergent views of the rankings in D2 college baseball.  As of next week there will be a 3rd weekly poll available from the National College Baseball Writers Association.

My goal will be to marry these 3 polls into 1 combined poll so that it’s easy to see where each team is ranked within the polls and to try and get a better ranking by combining these 3 into 1.  It will be kind of like the college football BCS where multiple polls are used to derive one national ranking.

The CBN and Ping polls are released each Monday and the NCBWA poll comes out each Tuesday so the Northern Sun Top 30 Poll will release each Tuesday going forward.  It’s pretty straight forward – if you are ranked #1 you get 30 points and the #30 team gets 1 point for each poll.

Congratulations to Southern Arkansas for being the first ever #1 team in the Northern Sun Poll!

Others receiving votes –

Caldwell College, Wayne State (NE), Incarnate Word, Henderson State, West Florida, Anderson Univ., Barry, Western Oregon, Bellarmine, Montevallo, Cal – Dominguez Hills

I am on a poll committee …. ABCA/Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Poll …. At this time of year … your guess is as GOOD as ours. The poll is to create interest in DII baseball and not much more at this time of the season. Those of us on the committee do it for the good of DII baseball … because the pay only costs us about $100 for the season 🙂 … so no one should get to critical just yet.

    Go Cats!
