As I mentioned in my previous post, I’m leaving this thread up if any Northern Sun or D2 College Baseball fans want to use the comments to chat about developments leading up to the 2011 season.
My Hitter of the Night in the Northwoods League from the games played yesterday, the 3rd of June is Bryan Lippincott from the Rochester Honkers by way of Concordia (MN). Bryan was a homer shy of the cycle in the Honkers 8-2 win over the MoonDogs. He finished the night by going 4 for 5 with 4 runs batted in and 2 runs scored.

My Hitter of the Night in the New York Collegiate Baseball League from last nights games is Jay Olson from the Alfred Thunder by way of Iowa Wesleyan College. Jay went 3 for 5, with a double, 2 runs and 2 rbi’s in the Thunder’s opening night win.
Honorable Mention
Ben Kincaid (Watertown-Minnesota State) 2 for 3, run, rbi, 3b
Jonathan Jurinko (Alfred-Geneva College) 2 for 4, 3 rbi’s, bb
Ryan DiMascio (A.C.-Oklahoma City College) 2 for 3, 2 runs, 2b
I remember Mr. Kinney from the NSIC tournament game that ended WSC season. The moment that stuck with me the most was when he took a real big hack at a 3-0 pitch in the bottom of the 8th with a 13-2 lead. Hope he grows outa that at the next level or he may develope a sudden hearing problem.
My POTN in the Northwoods League from June 4th is Josh McKeon of the Rochester Honkers by way of Upper Iowa University. Josh, a Rochester native didn’t factor in the decision, but he did hold the Moondogs scoreless through his 6.1 innings of work. He allowed just 5 hits, walked 3 and fanned 3 on the night for the Honkers.
They were posted on school pages and in a newsrelease a couple of weeks ago. #17 made it with his academics as well. Hope you are enjoying the summer. Headed to Rochester this weekend to watch the Honkers play.

John Plasha (Wayne State College) begins the first day of “The Next Chapter tomorrow night as the back-up catcher with The Camden Riversharks of The Atlantic Independent Baseball League at Campbells Field in Camden NJ. Former Major League catcher Ben Davis, (San Diego, Seattle, White Sox) who is making a comeback as a pitcher will be on the hill. Although it looks to only be a temp. assignment for a few days until the starting catcher recovers from a collision at the plate Jr’s signing a contract, getting a uniform, taking BP, and a bunch of other good stuff. And yes, Sr. will be in the house!!
That ladies and gentleman was incredible! Jr. made his professional debut earlier tonight. Signed autographs pregame, coached 1st base and warmed pitchers up during the game, then got a pitch hit ground out to SS in the 9th which was the prettiest GO I’ve ever seen. Just seeing his name up on the score board in a professional ball park was enough to bring out the goose bumps. From the big league locker room, to the little kids giving him their sneakers to autograph, to the catered dinner spread after the game, it was an experience he will remember for life. And we get to do it all over again tomorrow night. Getting paid to play baseball, it don’t get any better than that. Speaking of which, when he told me it took a half hour to sign all the pages of the contract I asked him how much he is getting paid? He looked at me and said “You know dad, I don’t even know” That’s called loving the game.
Congrats to your boy. It is different watching your little one sign autographs. Hope he does well. Maybe all those years of hard work will bring greater opportunities but for now enjoy the ride.
My daughter realized how good her brother was by watching the adoration in teh eyes of the receivers of 17′s autograph.
Eau Claire 4, Wisconsin 1
The Express took Wednesday night’s game from the Woodchucks due to a two run seventh inning. Nate Baumann (Augustana) reached base on an error and was drove in by college teammate, Drew Heithoff (Augustana), when Heithoff doubled.
Good to see the NSIC players doing well in Northwoods League. Most are playing very competitively both in the field and hitting. Going to Rochester this weekend to watch the Honkers.
Nightly Awards in the NYCBL-June 20th, June 12th and June 11th
Posted: 21 Jun 2010 02:22 PM PDT
My Hitter of the Night in the NYCBL from the 20th of June is Ben Kincaid of the Watertown Wizards by way of Minnesota State University. In a win over Albany, Ben went 3 for 4, with a double, triple, stolen base and walk. He also scored three runs and knocked in four on the night. He is now hitting .326 this summer.
hey boys lets not forget about the WMBL. plenty of nsic guys have played there. especially from WSC in the last 5 years. solid wood bat league that can compete with any summer league
His stint with the Camden River Sharks only lasted 2 games. He did have an at bat in which he had the prettiest ground out I ever saw. Turns out they signed another catcher who played AA ball with the Cinn. Reds. All in All it was the most exciting 2 days of his baseball career. Didn’t want to end it there so after attending an showcase/tryout in Detroit this past weekend he managed to snag a spot on an Independent team in The Georgia State League. We’re heading down there Saturday morning to sign on the doted line and hope to be in uniform Sat. night. Stand by for updates!
17′s contract with Rochester ends next week. Not sure what will happen. The full contract players will determine his fate. There are a couple draft picks still negociating I believe. It has been a great learning experience for him. He has played 5 postions for the Honkers.
The Wayne State players (Bidroski, Jones, Wendte, Snyder and now Dye) played or are playing for the Swift Current Indians in the WMBL – they have won or been runner up in that league for a number of consecutive years. Good people up there that take good care of the kids both on and off the field.
Nate’s 1st choice was at Concordia St.Paul to play but they didn’t want him. They took some other kid from Missouri or something.
Nate probably could have helped you guys some.
The Eau Claire Express has won the 1st half south division. Drew Heithoff (Augustana SD) is batting .423 and leading the NWL. Nate Baumann (Augustana SD) is batting .309. Both play for the Express.
The Express are rated the #6 summer college team in the country.
The All-Nebraska Division II team named by the Omaha World-Herald was released yesterday – Wayne State had quite a showing, with John Plasha, Joe Wendte, Nick Bidroski and Justin Beranek on the first team, and Tom Doran, John Snyder and Austen Wisroth with Honorable Mention. Link to article is below. Article is all about Joe Holtmeyer for UNO (honorary captain of the team) and over to the side is the list of the All-Nebraska DII team.

Rennecke column: Smith will test MLB draft next year
Posted: 02 Aug 2010 12:05 PM PDT
From the SCTimes.com
Jordan Smith was enlightened while participating in the Northwoods League All-Star game festivities last week in Eau Claire, Wis.
The Willmar High graduate and St. Cloud State outfielder found out that he’d be draft eligible entering next year’s Major League Baseball draft since his 21st birthday is within 60 days of the draft.
Mr. Smith, Heithoff and Baughman are having a great summer. Congrats to them.
How is Jr. doing in the Indie league?
Been on my first vacation in 13 years. Looking forward to the beginning of Fall ball.
While throwing BP in July to the HS school team when a line drive struck me on the head just above the left ear. Mild concussion have not had a concussion for a long time. Do not wish to repeat the events again.
That’s funny, well not really but I couldn’t help think about WOW and how he hurt his leg chasing a foul ball. He was in a cast for a while! The closest I get to a field these days is spreading absorbent on it after it rains. You 2 might wanna start planning for your “Older Years” and consider changing your ways. As far as Jr. he got a call from the Indy team asking him to come help out the week before last when their starting catcher went down again but he turned them down because the local semi-pro team that he was playing for was in the playoffs. He told them it wouldn’t be right to walkout on his teammates at that time. Pretty stand up thing to do in my opinion and things worked out well as they won the Championship. And it was nice to know the Indy team was still thinking about him. Might come in handy next spring when they have their tryouts.
The Eau Claire Express won the NWL Championship on Sunday Aug 22. Starters Drew Heithoff 2nd base and Nate Baumann RF from Augustana College, SD were key members this year. What a ride.
Just read on The Perfect Game web site that Eau Claire was ranked as the # 1 summer college league teame in the country beating out The Cape Cod Leagues “Yarmouth Red Sox”. What an accomplishment! Congrats to all especially those from the NSIC.
Just goes to show you that baseball may not be over even after your college baseball eligability is up. Jr is wrestling with this possibility now being this is the 1st fall not playing ball. It’s gonna seam like forever till spring gets here!
Well, fall baseball is here and for the first time in 15 years the boy is watching. Kind of sad yet exciting – as he begins to realize that real life is coming soon. Jobs and bills and such. Two more semesters until the degree.
To those of you whose boys are still playing – enjoy every minute. It will be over before you know it.
Lots of rain and cold weather late last week/most of Saturday kept them from playing on Sunday. Now it’s back near 90 degrees and humid again – go figure.
John Plasha Sr. I was just catching up on the blogs from this summer, and I came acrossed you saying you hope Mr. Kinney gets hit in the head by a pich. That is pretty sad that you are hopeing for that for this young guy. It was one pitch and you are hopeing he gets drilled and loses his hearing. That is awful that you are hoeping that for Mr. Kinney. Good luck to everyone this year other than anyone to do with John Plasha Sr.
I need to to thank you for this wonderful read!! I
absolutely loved every little bit of it. I have got you book
marked to check out new things you post…

I think it is a Canadian league. Regina is one team I believe.
I found it. It’s called The Western Major Baseball League. I’ll start following it and post what I see.
Here are the players from the NSIC I found on rosters listed. Not every team had a roster or schools listed
Jared Dickie Northern State
Billy Hurley Wayne State
John Snyder Wayne State
all-americasn scott bidroski, dustin jones and joe wendte have all played there from wsc. currently eric dye and john snyder from wayne are there.
Top Summer League teams per Perfect Game and the “Summer League” e-mail I get everyday list the top 30 teams in the country as of June 23rd.

Their website is http://www.wmbl.ca in case anyone is interested. Snyder is 3-0 pitching for them this summer so far
Last night bottom of the 13th Nate Baumann lead off with a single, sac bunt to 2nd. He stole 3rd base. Scored on passed ball. Beat Madison 8-7.
Good for Nate. Hope his summer continues to be successful. Not sure if Jr. could throw him out on a regular basis. Nate is a very fine player.
#17 has yet to be thrown out this year at either level.
Good thing Jr. wasn’t catchen!
Only Kidding, nice job.
Nate’s 1st choice was at Concordia St.Paul to play but they didn’t want him. They took some other kid from Missouri or something.
Nate probably could have helped you guys some.

Anybody have a summary of how all the nsic players did in the NWL now that the season is over?

Just goes to show you that baseball may not be over even after your college baseball eligability is up. Jr is wrestling with this possibility now being this is the 1st fall not playing ball. It’s gonna seam like forever till spring gets here!
SCSU Deminsky promoted to Twins Ft. Myers Miricle and Hammes gets first starts with the Saint Paul Saints.
Go Huskies!
2 first class acts from a 1st class program. Good luck to both!
Much luck to all.
Has all of the returning players made it back to school this fall?
Word on the street is that Wayne St. vs. Iowa Western CC fall baseball game was called off yesterday because of the weather. Imagine that!
And that’s right boys and girls, Sr. is still in the house!!
I have read so many articles on the topic of the blogger lovers except this post is in
fact a fastidious paragraph, keep it up.
I need to to thank you for this wonderful read!! I
