It will be #1 ranked UC – San Diego against #9 Southern Indiana in today’s scheduled 2010 NCAA Division 2 Baseball Championship Game in Cary, NC. Both teams are making their first ever appearance in the Final.
San Diego got there by winning the minimum 3 games over the past 8 days while Southern Indiana has had to play 4 games in the past 7 days as they started a day later and lost one along the way. Therefore, the Tritons pitching staff should be a lot fresher. That said, I’m sure the Screaming Eagles will have almost everyone pitch until their arms fall off if they have to.
The game will be played at 12:07pm Eastern and can be watched live here – Watch Championship Game Live
Got a little local connection with todays finilist. USI head coach Tony Archuleta used to be an assistant coach at Wayne State Nebraska back in 2000/2001. Also WSC played USI in early March this year and after getting 3 runs (1 by Jr.) off of todays starter (Trevor Leach) and taking a 3-1 lead, gave up 3 in the bottom of the 8th to register a 4-3 loss.
Congrats to USI. They are a very good team. Sure took it to us in that 2am special first game of the tournament.
One quick thing to point out is that I think USI had a fresh ace starting pitcher for today. I can’t find the story I read before so can’t confirm the name, but I know that their ace pitcher was suspended for 4 games after the regional championship for throwing at a batter. He would have come off that suspension today.
That doesn’t take anything away from their win at all. It meant they had to make it to the championship game without him.
Good luck to all this summer!

It was today’s starter, Trevor Leach that was suspended. Glad he could make it back in time to pitch his team to the title.
Hey, Who’s the new guy?
