The 2010 Division 2 NCAA Regional Baseball Tournaments are about halfway done and the weather continues to hold up in all 8 locations. The Northern Sun Conference is in a great position to send one of its teams to the NCAA D2 College World Series. Here’s your recap of where each of the Regions stands with 2 days to go -
Minnesota State and St. Cloud State are both undefeated and meet this morning to go to the championship game. The winner will be in the drivers seat to make it to Cary, NC. The Mavericks will likely be starting Daktronics/Rawlings, Central Region Pitcher of the Year, Blake Schwartz. That said, St. Cloud just faced him in the NSIC Playoffs and put up 8 runs. Winona State and Nebraska Kearney have been eliminated.
#2 Seed, West Chester, remains the only undefeated team left in the bracket as only #5 Mansfield has been eliminated so far.
#1 Southern Connecticut State and #2 Franklin Pierce are both undefeated and face off against each other while Stone Hill and CW Post try and make it back through the losers bracket.
Another bracket where #1 (Southern Indiana) will face #2 (Grand Valley State) in the winners bracket with Northern Kentucky and Indianapolis facing off in the elimination round.
Yet another bracket holding to form as #1 Southern Arkansas battles #2 Tampa as the only 2 undefeated teams left. Only Albany State and West Florida have been ousted and 4 other teams will fight through the 1 loss side of the bracket.
Georgia College is the only school with no losses as 5 teams remain in contention in the Southeast. Catawba was the first school to qualify for the D2 Regional Tournament and one of the first eliminated.
#1 seed Central Missouri faces off against #4 Incarnate Word to go to the championship game. Last year’s NCAA D2 National Runner-up, Emporia State, was eliminated by Central Missouri.
UC-San Diego, the #1 team in the country, is already in the championship game in this 4 team bracket. The winner of the Cal State – Dominguez Hills vs. Hawaii Pacific game will need to beat them twice. Cal State – Chico is out of the Tournament.
