The summer slow period is upon us but there are a number of updates I can share regarding D2 college baseball teams in the Northern Sun Conference.
Major League Baseball held it’s MLB 2009 Draft last week and WSC Superfan put together a good list of the 59 NCAA Division 2 players that were drafted – MLB D2 Draft List. Included among those players were 3 athletes from the Northern Sun Conference:
-
Chris Odegaard (Jr, RHP, Minnesota State) was drafted in the 23rd round by the Arizona Diamondbacks. The interesting thing is that Odegaard was drafted as the 696th overall selection – the exact same selection that he was in then 2008 MLB draft. Odegaard Drafted
-
Jacob Schmidt (Sr, RHP, Concordia) became the first ever player drafted from Concordia as he was selected in the 41st round by the Chicago Cubs. Schmidt Drafted
-
Geno Glynn (Sr, 3B, Minnesota State) was drafted in the 43rd round by the Tampa Bay Rays. He became the 30th Maverick to be drafted by a Major League team. Glynn Drafted
In other Northern Sun Conference news –
-

-
Winona State announced the signing of 8 players for the 2009-10 season. Warrior Baseball Signs 8
-

Big news from Wayne. Coach Manganaro has stepped down as head coach of the Wildcats. Brian Disch named interim Head Coach.
Thanks for everything Coach and good luck.
Why the “interim” before Head Coach?
Thanks for the heads up WSC – a little behind on watching news this summer. Big blow to the Wildcats.
